Here is an update on the club regarding the gym floors and tires from Darren Bedford. Gym Floors
I went to the Club on the first Thursday with a variety of tires and tried to mark the floor intensionally with each of the tires. The floor in the Thursday night gym is a 9" tile floor. No clear coating.
I tried the trials tires (which we know mark the floor easily) and they did leave a black mark.
I tried the black Hookworm, the orange freestyle, blue freestyle and black freestyle - they all left a mark.
The coloured tires left a whitish mark.
I tired the orange and grey Hookworm and it was the best tire for sure.
I was out of the country for the Monday and Thursday night meets last week. I attended the Monday night gym last night and talked with the caretaker before going into the gym. He told me that he was aware of the daytime caretaker who originally told the principal to cancel our permit because we marked the floor. After Pete talking with her and asking to reinstate our permit, the Principal talked with the caretaker I spoke with last night and he told her to let us come back as we were great people and didn't cause as much trouble as the daytime caretaker says. He said we did mark the floor but so does other user groups. He assured me that we didn't really have much to worry about. As I walked through the gym across the floor to open the door, I noticed the floor had a new shiny clear coated surface... with LOTS of black scuff marks ! Nick, Jen and I walked around and rubbed off at least 100 black scuff marks. I was still rubbing off scuff marks until about 7:45pm. These marks were there and not from us !!!! They actually look like running shoe marks. Here's what I suggest we do from now on ... Bring and ride the unicycle you have. If you notice you put a mark on the floor, get off and rub it out. At the end of the night, grad a stick with a tennis ball on the end, go around and make sure we haven't left any marks for the caretaker to find the next day. I will on behalf of the club, buy tennis balls and broom sticks to make at least 10 mark-rubber-offers that we can use to clean off the tire marks. I will hopefully have work on the white trials tires. I have a meeting in my shop on Thursday with a Canadian distributer who is getting me pricing and availability on them. If you have a black tire, it may be best to change it to a coloured one as they don't leave black marks. I will provide the tires at a discount for Toronto Unicyclists members if you want one. Let me know. I will monitor this issue closely as time goes on to make sure we clean up and don't run into any issues regarding losing the gyms we have. Please do your part to make sure we leave the gym floors clean. Now for some good, fun news ... Halloween !!!!! Our Halloween party will be Thursday October 30th at St.Marys Please wear a costume that you can ride your unicycle with to try to win a prize ! Last year we had some super cool costumes and had a lot of fun. This year should be twice as good ! More details at the gym or contact me. Membership Dues Membership fees for 2008-09 are due now. Pete is busy with the election that is coming up on Oct 14th. Since he is the treasurer, we will be collecting dues after he is back with the club after the election. It is going to be $100.00 per person for the whole year again this year. Milton Santa Claus Parade ! The only parade the club will likely be doing this year is the Milton parade on SUNDAY NOVEMBER 23RD @ 2:00PM - Must be there by 1:00PM ************************************************************** PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT TO BE IN THE PARADE WITH THE CLUB !!! ************************************************************** Looking forward to seeing everyone out at the unicycle club Mondays and Thursdays from now on !!!!!
